Losing a Senior politician - Whats Wrong With us

It’s extremely unfortunate that we have lost a cabinet minister and a senior politician in a road accident. Mr. Munde was a of one of the worst driving habits in the world. Disciplining traffic to reduce traffic menace was one of the ten points I suggested for action by the new Prime Minister of India in my pevious blog.  We also lost Sahib Singh Verma another senior politician in a road accident in 2007.

Its time the entire nation learns from this very unfortunate incident and takes this as a serious business to improve the driving habits and follow the traffic rules. HAd the driver of Indica that rammed into Mr. Munde's car had followed the simple law - stop when the signal is RED, he would be among us.

We can blame Governments for many lapses. However, road menace is primarily due to bad driving. I doubt how many Indian drivers know the correct rule and what to do in following situations:

1     1. You are about to enter a traffic circle but find another vehicle in the circle onto your right.
2     2. Where should one be after taking a left turn, on the left side of the road, right side or anywhere
3     3. Etiquettes of driving in the right most lane

Its about time, this is taken as a high priority item like the Black Money SIT. States have a major role but Centre can act as the initiator and a catalyst.
